An Open Letter To American Secessionists

It started as a few muttered complaints the day after the election, but the foot-stomping tantrum chorus of folks threatening to take their ball and go home if we don't agree to play by their rules is growiing.

"This is not my America" you lament!

"This is no longer the same country I know and love!"

Huh. You may be right.

Because frankly, if you believe that America in the 21st century should function under the same assumptions and with the same values as America did in the 18th century- then no, this actually isn't your America any more.

If you believe that "Freedom of religion" means that you have the right to make decisions about health care, family planning, equal rights, evolution and education for people who do not share your religion- you're in the wrong place.

If you think you have the right to say who other people can love, this isn't that place.

If you believe that bullying and abuse is ok- as long as you do it for Jesus, and that kids are better off in orphanages than with gay parents and that rape shouldn't be an 'excuse' for an abortion because hey, some girls rape easy… this is not your America.

If you believe that the working poor, pensioners and veterans in America just want 'free stuff' but the wealthy demand their personal income tax cuts for the good of the nation- no, this is not your America.

If you believe that black people only vote for a black man because of race but white people never vote for a white guy because of his race… if you believe that a 90 year old veteran who has been voting for 50 years should be denied a ballot because he no longer has a driver's license… then it's really not your America any more.

If you believe that having your candidate criticized is abusive mud-slinging but it's ok for you to call the other candidate "The Antichrist" then yeah, you may be in the wrong place.

And if you believe that it's not possible for your candidate to lose an election unless the "urban" people cheated…by voting…believe that an acceptable way to win is to try to stop as many people as possible from voting, that "bipartisan' means that all those other people do things your way and that the "United" part of "United States of America" only applies when your party is running the show… then you fundamentally don't understand what America is.

It's not a country where you can just 'opt out' when things don't go your way, and where a bunch of people whining that they want to leave will make us turn our backs on our principles in order to appease and accomodate them.

It's not a place where beginning a sentence with "I'm not a racist' makes it ok to call the President a ni**er. It's not a country where a rich, privileged old man can attack a young woman's character in vicious and almost pornographic ways simply because he disagrees with her politics- and not suffer consequences.

It's not a place where we believe that a helping hand in the middle of a natural disaster should come with a pricetag or that hungry children in a land of plenty should hunt through dumpsters for food because if they ask for bread, they're lazy.

It's not a nation where we think it's ok for poor people to die from treatable diseases because millionaire CEO's don't want to cut into their profits.

It's not a nation with endless tolerance for those who disdain science and reason or for the hipocrisy of decrying 'government 'freeloading' by other people when you have your hands in the cookie jar.

And thankfully, it's not a nation where bitter, obscenely wealthy men can buy themselves an election.

Not yet.

And now you say you want to leave.

That's strange, because you are the same people who yell "America- love it or leave it!" at us every time we're trying to fix what's broken around here.

You think it's unpatriotic for us to feel dissatisfied with the status quo Now, it seems like you don't love America enough to stick around and work together.

That's too bad.

Look, we're not trying to run you out, but you are certainly free to go.

I don't think many of you have actually thought this out from an economic, educational or military perspective, but critical thinking doesn't seem to be your strong suit anyway.

Uh, no- you don't get to take your state with you.

Sorry, but that 'Constitution' thing you're always going on about says these states stay together.

And you don't get to keep the flag you're always waving: that one belongs to America too.

But you can leave, if that's really what you want.

The border is that-a-way...

Family in dilemma after triplets’ birth, unable to pay hospital bill:

A couple with five children was recently blessed with a set of triplets. The couple, now with eight kids – five boys and three girls – never envisaged going that far in child bearing. But since circumstance had made it so, Mr. & Mrs. Ifeani Benjamin Amadu, from Ukpo in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, have no option but to accept their fate.Mrs. Amadu told our correspondent that three months into her pregnancy, she had gone for scan only to be told that she was carrying three babies in her womb, a revelation that threw her into fright. Soon after she was delivered of the babies at Ajeromi General Hospital, Ajegunle, Lagos, on Saturday, October 27, 2014, the woman and her husband found themselves in a tight corner. They had no money to offset their hospital bills, which stood at N150, 000. Mrs. Amadu, while narrating her experiences during and after her pregnancy, pointed out that it was a serious battle. “The pregnancy was not business as usual,” she began. “At a point, my whole body became too heavy that I could not do even very common things. I could neither sleep well nor walk freely. Also, bending and bathing were tough for me. In fact, it was as if I was carrying excess load.”

She told Daily Sun, however, that all the problems disappeared immediately after she was delivered of the babies. People kept trooping to the hospital to see the bundles of joy. It was discovered that the triplets were the first to be delivered in the hospital this year.
Though she had a safe delivery and her triplets were in sound health, paying her hospital bills and taking care of the triplets have become a daunting task. Following failure of the couple to foot their hospital bill more than two weeks after delivery, the triplets and their mother could not be discharged. Unfortunately, Mrs. Amadu, a National Certificate of Education (NCE) holder and a teacher in a private school earns a very lean salary. Her income and that of her husband are nowhere enough for them to cater for the delivery. “I could not save enough for this delivery because my salary is poor,” she said. “I tried to get a job in a public school as a teacher, but none came my way. So I decided to manage with the one that I have right now. My husband too planned as much as he could for the task ahead, but we never knew that things would work out this way. Unfortunately, earlier before my delivery, robbers visited us and carted away some money that my husband had planned to invest in a little business. So, that is why we have found ourselves in this tensed situation.”

Mrs. Amadu wants financial support from men and women of goodwill who she believes would have a share in the special blessings being brought by the triplets. “At the moment, we cannot pay the hospital bill due to our severe financial constraints. We are therefore calling on men and women of goodwill like Governors Wille Obiano, Rochas Okorocha, Babatunde Raji Fashola, corporate bodies and other groups and individuals to come to our aid so that we can leave the hospital. I am tired of staying here; I want to go home with my babies,” she said. Her husband, Mr. Ifeani Amadu, also expressed his feelings. “We have been married for 14 years, and since that time, my wife has been fruitful. In fact, we had closed child bearing after four children. But the pregnancies continued to come. After having five children, we never planned having another, yet the sixth came. As a child of God, I have been feeling so bad to encourage abortion or family planning. But now, we have been forced to do it.” He believed that the triplets would serve as a point of contact for others. He described the situation, as a serious one and called on Nigerians to come to the rescue of his family. “I have been thinking about how to get out of this situation. My wife and the triplets have spent close to three weeks in the hospital because I have no money to pay their bill. I am appealing to those who are touched by what my family is going through to assist us financially so that we could pay the hospital bill and cater for the babies too.

Any financial assistance should be made to Mr. Ifeani Benjamin Amadu, UBA Account number 2032569487. The family can be reached on 07033284662 and 09035639764.

Rude jokes for the over twenties
Just try reading this without laughing till you cry!!!

Pocket Tazer Stun Gun, a great gift for the wife.

A guy who purchased his lovely wife a pocket Tazer for their anniversary submitted this:

Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Julie. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse-sized Tazer.

The effects of the Tazer were supposed to be short lived, with no long term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety...??

WAY TOO COOL! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home... I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button and pressed it against a metal surface at the same time, I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs.

AWESOME!!! Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave.

Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two AAA batteries, right?

There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target.

I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and then thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised.

Am I wrong?

So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and Tazer in another.

The directions said that:

a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant;

a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; and

a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water.

Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries.

All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference (loaded with two itsy, bitsy AAA batteries); pretty cute really, and thinking to myself, 'no possible way!'

What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best.

I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side so as to say, 'Don't do it stupid,' reasoning that a one second burst from such a tiny lil ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad.. I decided to give myself a one second burst just for heck of it.

I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and...

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. WHAT THE... !!!

I'm pretty sure Hulk Hogan ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs! The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an attempt to avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room.

Note:
If you ever feel compelled to 'mug' yourself with a Tazer,
one note of caution:

There is NO such thing as a one second burst when you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor!
A three second burst would be considered conservative!

A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape.

My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace.
· The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was.
· My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching..
· My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs.
· I had no control over the drooling.
· Apparently I had crapped in my shorts, but was too numb to know for sure, and my sense of smell was gone.
· I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head, which I believe came from my hair.
I'm still looking for my testicles and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return!

PS: My wife can't stop laughing about my experience, loved the gift and now regularly threatens me with it!

If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

THE FORGOTTEN ONES (MISSIONARIES IN THE MISSION FIELD)
Currently some of them are in the villages, with no electricity to even get a bulb lighted, neither any power source to charge their mobile phone that is even for those who have mobile network in their current assignment. Many of them have been neglects by their family because they felt they are living a miserable life, some are graduates, medical doctors, Architects, Engineers they cannot practise their profession because a higher order (God) has requested their service.
Some of them are even struggling to send their Children to school, even when they can they cannot get the level of education and the standard they have dreamed for their Children, even omen of them their children are complaining that their parent cannot send them to the type of school they wanted because of the type of environment they are.
Oh God have mercy on all of us who have sent men to the battlefield and forgets them there, the greatest challenge is not the world that forgets them, is not the world system that forgets them but the brethren who sent them there, but neglects them there. NO COUNTRY SENDS THERE MILITARY MEN INTO WAR AND FORGETS THEM THERE, THEREFORE OUR MILITARY MEN ARE THE MOSSIONARIES WE SHOULD NOT FORGET THEM.
Why do we forget them? Is it because they are not with us all the time and therefore we tend to erase them from our mind? Is it because they do not have any financial return since most of their locations are always demanding for fund rather than giving fund to the Headquarters, Is it because their Churches uses wood and shrubs for their structures and we felt when we visit them our clothe might get dirty, is it because their locations are remote and the roads are bad? All these are not genuine reasons to forget our missionaries in the mission field they are our foot soldiers, they are our fore runners, and they are the military men fighting for the cause of the gospel, to ensure nations are saved for the Lord.
What are we to do today? Please do you know a missionary on the mission field call him or her on phone today if there is network on in his/her place of assignment, if there is no network write a letter or call on the mission office to help you contact them. I will appreciate you informing us when you have contacted them, share your experience and how happy they are after the call. Also, support them with prayer more than ever before, remember their children and family as well and their mission. Please ensure you support financially the mission and those in leadership should not divert the mission finance for building structure, buying cars etc. Let us emulate the developed nation where the military are the most funded because they are the foot soldiers, the mission should be the most funded because the structure must be occupied by people, and who will bring the people? The missionaries. Always ask after the welfare of the missionaries in the field and when God inspired you to support them please do it, also if you know their parent back home visit them and let them know that their children have men and brethren who loves them.
TODAY LET US ENSURE THE MISSIONARIES ARE PART OF OUR DAILY ROUTINES. REMEMBER TO CALL AND PRAY FOR THEM TODAY.EARNESTLY CONTENDING FOR THE FAITH, DELIVERED TO THE SAINTS.

The gospel is the heart of God.There is joy in heaven over a sinner that repents.Let us rise unto responsibility.
Preserver Of The Truth

While this is posted as a political post, I would submit as a "is this the kind of person I want to be" post. Do you want to hate what doesnt agree with your opinion instead of at least trying to learn the other side, to automatically disagree because one person or group says something rather than look at the issue? You can be what ever party you choose, but do you really want to be that kind of person?
Bruce D. Benefield
{A special note: What follows below mysteriously appeared on the internet today, without a proper credit I could find in tribute to the utterly-brilliant writer who originated the poignant piece; whomever he, or she, may be. I thank them, from the bottom of my heart. And I had to share this with all of you FaceBook Critters, who I do so love; not 'wanted' to share it, mind you...but I just 'had' to}!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

"TODAY'S THOUGHT": The Hate Party of No!!! Behold herewith below The Purest Possible Definition of an American "Rethuglican" Run Amok...
---------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, I meet you all the time. You hate Obama. You hate gay people. You hate black people, immigrants, Muslims, labor unions, even those women who want the right to make choices concerning their bodies; you hate'em all! You hate being called 'racist'!. You hate being called the 'bigot' you are. Maybe if you talked about creating jobs more than you talk about why you hate gay people we wouldn't call you bigots. Maybe if you talked about black people without automatically assuming they are on food stamps, while demanding their birth certificates we wouldn't call you racist. You hate socialism and social justice. You hate regulations and taxes and spending and the Government. You hate!

Now you do like war. You like torture. You like Jesus. (I don't know how in the hell any of that is compatible, but no one ever accused you haters of being over-committed to ideological consistency). You like people who look like you, or at least folks who hate most of the things that you hate. You hate everything else.

Most assuredly, you profess love for our country and its founding-fathers, (unless, you are reminded that they believed in the separation of church and state); but I need to remind you here that America is NOT what Fox News says it is! America is, instead, the multi-cultural melting pot it always has been. We are, by definition, a loosely-unified amalgamation of all kinds and types of people; yet you still demonize everyone who is not a rich, pasty-white, heterosexual, 'Christian-claiming' male, or his ever-submissive, obedient wife.

You hate liberals & moderates; truth is, you hate anyone who disagrees with the so-called 'conservative' dogma, as torturously espoused by the likes of Fox News, and arguably demented Rush Limbaugh. You hate'em! Pure & simple!

Well, "...here are the facts, Jack": If you hate USA Government then you are unqualified to manage it. If you hate gay people more than you love America then you should take your own advice and get the hell out of America...move to Costa Rica with 'RushBo' Limbaugh, (which he publicly promised to do, if and when Barack Hussein Obama was ever elected to he Presidency of the USA). Tragically, Obama has been elected to be our President...twice!!! And yet unfettered "AssHead"/rabble-rouser, Rush Limbaugh, yet abides amongst us, here in the "Home of the brave; land of the free", with you and me. Yes there are several countries that are openly hostile to gay people, but they are full of brown-sinned people, too; and you don't like them much either, from what I understand. It looks like you're screwed, but that's not what I am here to tell you.

You have thrown everything but the kitchen sink at President Obama, and because even that-goofy ploy hasn't worked you are panicking. Obama's approval ratings are still near 50%, despite your best efforts to undermine the economy and America's recovery every opportunity you can. At an estimated cost of 52-billion wasted dollars, you actually tried to hold the American economy hostage in order to force America into default of its' debts; debts that YOU rang up under Bush, so you could blame it on Obama. You failed, again!

You've used the filibuster more than any other Congress ever, going so far as to vote against providing health care access to 9/11 first responders, who you had previously professed to worship. {You do remember 9/11, don't you, it's that tragic-event you used to lie us into a winless religious civil war with Iraq}. And then when Obama had Bin Laden killed, thus ending that war in Iraq, you told people that he hates America and wants the troops to fail. Classless, racist monsters is what you are! You hate Obama with a passion, despite the fact that he is a tax cutting, deficit reducing wartime President, (who undermined civil rights and delivered corporate friendly watered down reforms that benefit special interests, just like you Republicans always do). Yet you have the gall to call him an Anti-American, Muslim-Kenyan. You call him a socialist. You dance with racial-hatred, singing it so proudly in the rain, like it was a 1950's musical.

Frankly, you disgust me! Your hatred nauseates me! Your bigotry offends me! Your racism revolts me! You embarrass me. And you are both a national and international embarrassment to whatever is left of sane American people.

Dear "Rethuglican" haters: I am openly questioning your patriotism. I think you hate gays, Obama, black people, poor people, all of us; women, atheists and agnostics, Latinos, Muslims, Liberals, all of us. I think you hate every one who isn't exactly like you, and I think you hate us more than you love your country.
I believe you hate gay-soldiers more than you want America to win its wars.

Actually, I suspect you don't even want America to win its wars; you just want America to have wars, never-ending wars and the war-profiteering it generates. You love that kind of spending, you love spending on faith-based initiatives and abstinence based sex education (George Carlin would have loved that one), you love spending on subsidies for profitable oil corporations, you spend like drunken sailors when you are in the White House, but if it is a Democrat then suddenly you cheer when America doesn't get the Olympics because it might make the black President look bad. But oooh, you love your country so much, you say, and you want it back! Well listen here, Skippy: America isn't 'your' country. You don't own it! It's our country, and America is NOT merely a horde of religiously extremist Foxbots, who hate science, elitist professors and having a vibrant and meaningful sex life with someone we love; whether hypocrite Rick Santorum approves of it, or not, for God's sake! Rick Santorum isn't running for America's fucking high school dance-chaperone; he should probably just shut the hell up about sex; yet he can't, because he has nothing else to run on.

"Rethuglicans" CAN'T win on the issues; never have. They've got NOTHING! The only 'arrow' in their ineffective political-quiver is the promotion of a divide & conquer class war, which pits ignorant racist and bigoted people against the rest of us in a meaningless battle of wedge issues and the already proven-to-fail George W. "The Mental Pygmy" Bush agenda again; more senseless tax cuts for the rich, (who least need them, while our nation falls further into debt); along with ever more senseless deregulation, and the agonizingly stupid privatization of essential public-services, (like destroying Social Security and Medicad), in the face of lusting for more war-profiteering; NOTHING ELSE! All "Rethuglicans" can do is blame black people, gays, the government; anybody and everyone else, for their own seismic, do-nothing failings; THE PARTY OF PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, MY ASS!

But they love wholly greed-driven multi-national corporations, who have moved, 18-million good-paying USA jobs to Communist China. Ask gay hating, racist religious extremists if they think Corporations are people, and they will gladly agree. Yet if you ask them if gay people are 'people' then they aren't so sure.

Dear 'haters': you are the cruel, heartless misinformed assholes who would sell America out to Halliburton in a heartbeat, and you would rather pay ZERO taxes than you would see a newly born baby get access to quality health care. Then you cheer when discussing the denial of health care to young people with preventable diseases, and you boo when we discuss the First Lady's positive plan to cut back on childhood-obesity. You have a cross to carry and a flag to wrap yourself in; (yet far & away from being the people who Sinclair Lewis warned us about). But I guarantee herewith that if Fox News told you to dress that way you would, because you are the same blind, ignorant and closed-minded dunces who drove this country into our own civil war those many years ago, because you are afflicted by the racist-notion that some men are indeed created more equal than others. In short, the reason I proudly wear my union army hat now and again today is because of seditious, Anti-American sell-outs like you, who constantly fuck over working class Americans so some foreign entrepreneur like Rupert Murdoch can get a bigger tax break. If corporations are people, they are neither American patriots, nor capable of love. Just like all of you self-serving, hollow-hearted bigots.

So stop wearing your hate with such pride! Stop celebrating your anti-science, anti-math ignorance. Stop using code words to mask your bigotry like "family values", especially when you hate my family and when you stand on the same stage with a guy who has had three marriages, or if you share a seat in the Senate with a guy who cheated on his wife with hookers, while wearing diapers. You ought to be ashamed! I know that you are just doing this to motivate your misinformed hate-cult base, because if they actually realized your empty-ideas will only serve to make them poorer than they are now, they would never vote for you! You are doing your best to impoverish your countrymen so rich people can get bigger tax breaks and you can keep on delivering corporate welfare to the special interests who have bribed you! I'm completely disgusted by the way you so gleefully parade your hatred and endemic hypocrisy; and with such callous aplomb, too. I don't think you love America at all! At least, not as much as you hate everyone in America who isn't exactly like you. You should think about that, and maybe get some help, instead of depriving folks a right to vote.

And for the record herewith, I DO NOT HATE YOU! I am embarrassed by you, sure, nauseated by your cruel and thoughtless behavior and your all-consuming greed; Yet t I do not hate you. I forgive you and I trust you'll change someday. Again, I don't hate you. You have enough hate in you for the rest of us, as it is.

ENGR. RABI’U MUSA KWANKWASO’S SPEECH ON THE OCCASSION OF HIS DECLARATION TO RUN FOR THE PRESIDENCY OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, UNDER THE BANNER OF THE APC IN THE 2015 GENEREAL ELECTIONS

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2014
Protocol
Mr Chairman, permit me to begin by expressing my profound gratitude to the multitude of compatriots that have travelled from across the length and breadth of this Great Country to attend this historic event. The size and composition of this august gathering has further confirmed my conviction that a peaceful, united and more prosperous Nigeria is possible. The immense sacrifice made by this large throng of Nigerians to come to Abuja, in spite of the scandalous conditions of our highways; in spite of the biting insecurity all over the country as manifested in insurgency, armed robbery, kidnapping, and ethno-religious unrest; in spite of the very high risk of, and persistent disappointments in our local aviation industry; and in spite of the general mood of unease deliberately created and being fuelled by the incompetent PDP-led administration, is a testimony to what I have always believed about this country - Change, positive change, is possible. Change, progressive change, is doable. And we are the agents of this Change. We are the Change! We should not only make it possible, we must make it achievable. Yes, we must.
Mr Chairman distinguished Party Leaders, and Fellow APC members. It is only our Great Party, the All Progressive Congress, APC that has what it takes not only to stop this misrule of the PDP but also to reverse the stinking rot and decay that is suffocating our Country. Our Party is the only Party that is built with Nigeria and Nigerians in focus. This is expressed succinctly in the Ten Commitments of the APC and also encapsulated concisely in the Mission Statement of our Party. We are the only party that practice internal democracy that believes in equal rights that value our cultural diversities that respect our religious varieties that abides by the rule of law, and that believe in free and fair election as the only lifeline for sustaining democratic legitimacy. Mr Chairman, we have a huge burden of responsibility to mobilize Nigerians to come out en-masse come February 2015 to sack the PDP out of power and save our dear country. Yes we must!
Distinguished Compatriots, my crave to serve and save our country drove me, twenty four years ago, to resign from the Kano State Civil Service as Principal Engineer in 1991 to join partisan politics and contested election as a member of the House of Representatives, where I was also elected as Deputy Speaker. The detailed workings of our legislative assembly, the intricacies, complexities and delicate politicking in our legislative chambers are experiences that I lived.
Mr. Chairman and fellow APC members, the call to save our dear Country has never been louder, clearer and more unambiguous than now. Every facet of our national life is deteriorating: governance has been reduced to mediocrity; incompetence and impunity. I have no doubt in my mind that this journey is difficult and arduous. I have no illusion about the enormity of the challenges. But to save our country, we must walk the journey, however difficult. And we must confront and defeat all the challenges, however monstrous. Yes, we must!
The first priority of this country at this moment is restoring peace and security in every corner of the land. Lives and properties of our citizens must be protected and secured. Boko Haram and all forms of insurgency must be defeated. As a government, we cannot afford to live in denial. Insecurity is escalating at an alarming rate. Little wonder rag-tag insurgents are taking over cities and towns in the Northeast. My experiences as Nigeria’s Defence Minister and as Special Adviser on war-torn Darfur and Somalia have shown me that securing a nation and fighting and defeating armed insurgents is only achievable if the forces are professionally mobilized, properly kitted and equipped, highly spirited, and correctly armed with intelligence and munitions. My experiences have shown me that technology must be deployed in addition to mobilizing and cultivating the support of local communities. Cross-border intelligence is a veritable ingredient necessary to defeat armed insurgents. Relegating the welfare of the Armed Forces and the Nigerian Police Force to the background only helps in compounding the phenomenon. And where low morals meet poor quality equipment and kits, no doubt the insurgents will have an edge. Any responsible government must take these issues seriously if protection of life and property of its citizens is its primary responsibility. These, we understand very well. We must work together, compatriots, in a new APC government to achieve this. Yes, we must!
Our journey to economic prosperity will always be imperilled if the peace and security of movements of persons and goods cannot be guaranteed. Stopping these menaces does not require rocket science. Good surveillance equipment deployed appropriately and manned by well-groomed and well motivated enforcement agents will do the magic. Ensuring that the culprits are apprehended and brought to justice is imperative.
The second priority of this country, my compatriots, is killing the cancer of corruption that has eaten so deeply into the very fabric of our value system. The impunity with which corruption is being perpetrated, promoted, and protected by the present PDP administration leaves no patriotic Nigerian in doubt that the government is working deliberately and with determination to impoverish Nigerians.. We must stop them. We must save our country. Yes, we must. Effective fight against corruption requires strong institutions, political will of the leadership, as well as cooperation of the citizenry. This, we are determined to do. Our antecedent testifies that we have the capacity and political will to do so.
The transparency with which we are running the affairs of Kano State and the results that the entire country is seeing are a testimony to our doggedness in fighting corruption. Corruption is one of the veritable nutrients of insecurity. The strategy of the present PDP administration to perpetuate itself in Power is divisive. It is most unfortunate that this administration uses religious, ethnic, sectional and other primordial

Sentiments to cover protect and promote corruption in public life. These same sentiments are being used to polarise and divide the country in order to perpetually remain in Power. We must stand up together as one people to fight against corruption, impunity and division. Yes, we must.
The next priority Mr. Chairman is the economy. Nations do not build sound economies on insecurity, brigandage and mayhem. Nations do not build responsive economies on a foundation of scandalous corruption and impunity. Nations do not build strong economies on lies and half-truths. We cannot be different. All sorts of colourful yet deceptive statistics are being churned out by the PDP administration to give Nigeria’s economy a clean bill of health. They are all conjectures. The reality on the ground is at sharp contrast with the cooked up statistics. The fiscal policy of the present administration is more than disastrous. Its micro and macroeconomic policies are as vacuous as they are deceptive. Budget performance is more than qualified to be in the Guinness’ Book of World Records of fiscal indiscipline and poor performance. How can we attain development when only a tiny percentage of our budget is allocated for Capital Project and even that is not properly implemented? How can we grow when the wealth of the nation is being stolen by the very trustees to the wealth? Where on this planet do we have a nation so endowed and yet again so impoverished. That is why we must rally around and replace this present PDP Government with a progressive and responsive APC administration under my stewardship. In Kano State, we have one of the best records of fiscal discipline in the country. This has been acknowledged severally by reputable institutions and numerous credible professional bodies and civil society organizations, several of whom have honoured the State at different occasions. This is our vision for Nigeria. Our plan for Nigeria is to gradually achieve a budget Capital to Recurrent ratio of at least 70 to 30 per cent within our first three years in office. We will cut cost of running government and eliminate all forms of wastages like we have done in Kano. It is possible. It is achievable. With the support of all we can be there. Yes, we must.
We cannot have a functional economy without the active participation of the private sector and the collaboration of our international partners and friends.
Cutting cost of business is one of the instruments we must use to provide a conducive environment for both local and foreign investors. Our import and export policies shall be re-examined to make business easier and less expensive. several other issues that make private sector operation difficult and expensive will be reviewed. The gains achieved in the agricultural and manufacturing sectors will be improved. We cannot build a formidable economy without a sustainable energy source. Our country’s investments in power and the corresponding output is, to say the least, embarrassing. The independent power project we initiated in Kano State which is expected to be completed in March 2015 will be generating 35 Megawatts of electricity. This volume of energy will re-launch Kano to its position as a leading industrial and commercial centre.
The strength of any economy, distinguished compatriots, depends on the quality, competence, fitness and morale of the available human resources that drive it. Nigeria’s education and health sectors are facing multi-throng crises of quality, quantity, infrastructure, equipment, and brain drain. At the heart of these crises are policy and sincerity. We must remake our National Education and Health Policies to provide for sustainable lifeline of funding for these very critical sectors of our national life. Toying with the education of our children and youth is akin to passing a death sentence to an entire generation. A generation killed, a future mortgaged, and a country destroyed. That is the result of playing insincere politics with education. We cannot afford to sacrifice the future of Nigeria. I want to thank the people who worked with me to revitalize the education system in Kano State. We have constructed more and more physical infrastructure for teaching and learning, distributed more learning resources including electronic teaching facilities, increased primary school enrolment and expanded access to education at all levels. We have improved the teachers’ conditions of service and welfare, and pursued a vigorous high-level manpower development policy including the training of all categories of professionals locally and abroad.. We have established numerous vocational institutes and training schools to give our youth skills and training that will make them more useful contributors to the growth of our economy. In pursuance of our belief that knowledge is Power and knowledge is Wealth we have made education free at all levels in Kano State.
Mr Chairman, we cannot brag of having a sound economy when our universities are sick. A strong, competitive economy is only possible in countries with strong and world class universities. We have no excuse for keeping our universities and other tertiary institutions in the present sorry state. We must rebuild our universities and make them the world class institutions that they once were.
The capital flight out of Nigeria from citizens who travel to other climes to seek medical attention is alarming. This is the consequence of government’s failure to put in place a functional national health policy and to provide even the minimum health infrastructures. The direct correlation between the strength of our economy and the health of our citizens is very clear in my mind. A sick population can never be productive. A sick population cannot drive a robust economy. We must provide the necessary health infrastructures to support the wellbeing of our nation. We must create the conditions that will make medical and associated practices attractive and rewarding in our country. In this regard government must provide and encourage a conducive atmosphere for research and development in the Health Sector.
Our country is blessed with abundant, resourceful and dynamic human resources that can effectively harness numerous natural resources that abound in all nooks and crannies of the country. However, lack of political will and committed leadership to make effective use of these resources militates against the growth and development of our economy.
While our country languishes in the ignominy of corruption and bad governance, women in Nigeria are the worst victims of these malaises. Women constitute the largest part of our population, they make the greatest sacrifices and contributions yet they are always relegated, under-represented and marginalized. Most of the victims of insurgency, terrorism and the general insecurity are women. They get killed, they get widowed, they get orphaned, they get abducted, maimed, humiliated and abused and yet, they get no support from the central government. Let us have a government that will give priority and sincere attention to women and children. Let us have a government that will give high premium to the girl-child education. Let us have a government that will create policies to empower the Nigerian women to become competitive players in every sector of our national life. Let us have a government that respect women and children and protect their lives and dignities. Let us have a Kwankwaso-led government that will actualize these for Nigeria. What we have achieved in Kano State in terms of girl-child education, women empowerment, maternal health and wellbeing has made Kano one of the most women-friendly states in the country. Nigerian women must come out to the polling stations in droves to vote for the APC in the next general election. Our government will be a government for the Nigerian woman! A government for the Nigerian girl! A government for the Nigerian child! We must work hard to enthrone that government. This can only be done by an APC Government under my leadership. We have done it in our State. And we will do it for the whole country. Yes, we must.
Just as women and children are being neglected and discriminated upon by the thick-skinned government of the PDP, so are our elderly, the pensioners and the physically challenged. Federal government pensioners suffer every unimaginable maltreatment and dehumanization. They gave their all to the nation during their youthful ages and, today at the moment of their need, when they are weak and aged, when they need the support of the nation the most, they are being traumatized and betrayed. They are being abandoned and humiliated. Let us work together to cater for the need of our senior citizens. Let us build a government that will give Pensioners a decent lease of life. Let us have the opportunity to bring smiles to the face of every Nigerian Pensioner as we have done in Kano State. We have reformed the pension process in Kano. We have made it more efficient and more responsive. And we have increased the pension by more than 4000%. Distinguished Compatriots, we must have a policy that will index the pension of Nigerian retirees to the prevailing conditions of service of serving employees. We cannot afford to be paying our pensioners a ‘starvation pension’ thereby condemning them to poverty and destitution. We must give them a decent life. Yes we must!
Mr Chairman, our country has never had a coherent policy for the elderly and for citizens with special needs. Governments do nothing but treat them as beggars and burdens. Their education, their health, their general welfare and wellbeing and their special needs are never attended to or even factored into government plans and operations. We must change this. We must ratify all the relevant UN conventions relating to the rights of persons with disabilities. We must put in place a clear policy and mechanism for implementing the provisions of the convention. Let us have a government that will put in place and implement the equal opportunity policy for all Nigerians. Let us have a government that will ensure that no one is discriminated upon because of their special needs. That is an APC Government! That will be the Kwankwaso administration.
The cheap money from oil and gas that our country is so dependent on is being threatened by many factors: the diversification of energy sources by the major energy-consuming nations, the crashing of the price of oil in the international market, the organized oil bunkering and pipeline vandalisation, and the finiteness of the resource, etc. We must go beyond the politics of resource control and plan the future of this country carefully and intelligently. That future cannot be built around a finite resource. It must be built around resources that are limitless such as education and agriculture. Let us work together to harness these limitless resources to build a peaceful, united, prosperous and egalitarian society.
Time and again, I listen to people accuse the Nigerian youth of being an ‘angry bunch’. Let me seize this opportunity to commend the Nigerian youth for being angry. Anger in today’s Nigeria is a virtue that every Patriot must imbue. We must be very angry with what is happening to our country. We must be very angry because an inept government is killing our dreams, destroying our future, squandering our wealth, and shortening our lives. In Kano State, we are giving hope to the youth through education and skills acquisition schemes. We have sponsored thousands of graduates to different universities all over the world to pursue various higher degrees. We have sponsored thousands of youth to many institutions all over the country to study for different courses and pursue the careers of their dreams. We have made education free in all public schools, from primary school to the university.
We have established numerous skills incubation centres where youth and women get trained and start-up capital given to them to commence their small enterprise. We are creating opportunities. We are creating jobs. We are also making the youth to be the creators of jobs. We are bringing meaning into their lives. These are the butterfly effects that must be created all over the country. This is possible. Let me call on all Nigerian youth to unleash their anger on their ballot papers by voting the PDP out of Aso Rock in February, 2015. We must vote for the APC to bring change to our nation, to actualize hope, to remove despair and despondency. We must mobilize our anger to make the PDP administration history. Yes, we must.
Mr. Chairman, Distinguished compatriots, let me conclude this address with a reflection on the sad slide of our country in international affairs from grace to grass. Once upon a time, Nigeria stood out as the doyen of Africa’s diplomacy, and credible global Ambassadors of Peace and Stability as reflected in our leadership of peace keeping operations around the Globe. Our neighbours in particular then looked to us for leadership, support and at critical times for their existence. Regrettably, Mr. Chairman, today the reverse is the case. We are sadly on our knees looking for aid and cooperation from our neighbours and the international community to preserve our territorial integrity and wellbeing. An APC administration under my stewardship will as a matter of priority overhaul our foreign policy initiative and harvest the dividends of our interventions in the economy, security and other critical areas highlighted in this address, to revamp the image of Nigeria and place our country in its right position as the Giant of Africa and a key global player in international relations. Mr. Chairman, this we must do. Yes, we must.

The success of this journey and clarion call by patriotic Nigerians from across the country motivated me to seek APC's Nomination as the Party's Presidential Flag bearer for the February 2015 general election. I therefore, wish to accept this call and to formally declare my interest to seek for the Presidential ticket of our great party the APC in February 2015 general elections. I am offering myself and soliciting the support of all patriotic Nigerians to join Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on this difficult journey to reclaim our country from the clutches of incompetence and destruction and return it onto the pedestal of Peace and Progress. I have no doubt in my mind that this journey is difficult and ardours. I have no illusion about the enormity of the challenges. But to save our country, we must walk the journey, however difficult. And we must confront and defeat all the challenges, however, monstrous they are. Yes, we must.

Thank you for your kind attention and patience.

God bless you all. God bless the APC. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Write a prescription

A prescription is an instruction from a prescriber to a dispenser. The prescriber is not always a doctor but can also be a paramedical worker, such as a medical assistant, a midwife or a nurse. The dispenser is not always a pharmacist, but can be a pharmacy technician, an assistant or a nurse.
Every country has its own standards for the minimum information required for a prescription, and its own laws and regulations to define which drugs require a prescription and who is entitled to write it. Many countries have separate regulations for opiate prescriptions.

Information on a prescription

There is no global standard for prescriptions and every country has its own regulations. Do you know the legal requirements in your own country? The most important requirement is that the prescription be clear. It should be legible and indicate precisely what should be given. Few prescriptions are still written in Latin; the local language is preferred. If you include the following information, not much can go wrong.

Name and address of the prescriber, with telephone number (if possible)

This is usually pre-printed on the form. If the pharmacist has any questions about the prescription (s)he can easily contact the prescriber.

Date of the prescription

In many countries the validity of a prescription has no time limit, but in some countries pharmacists do not give out drugs on prescriptions older than three to six months. You should check the rules in your own country.

Name and strength of the drug

R/(not Rx) is derived from Recipe (Latin for ‘take’). After R/you should write the name of the drug and the strength. It is strongly recommended to use the generic (nonproprietary) name. This facilitates education and information. It means that you do not express an opinion about a particular brand of the drug, which may be unnecessarily expensive for the patient. It also enables the pharmacist to maintain a more limited stock of drugs, or dispense the cheapest drug. However, if there is a particular reason to prescribe a special brand, the trade name can be added. Some countries allow generic substitution by the pharmacist and require the addition ‘Do not substitute’ or ‘Dispense as written’ if that brand, and no other, is to be dispensed.

The strength of the drug indicates how many milligrams each tablet, suppository, or milliliter of fluid should contain. Internationally accepted abbreviations should be used: g for gram, ml for milliliter. Try to avoid decimals and, where necessary, write words in full to avoid misunderstanding. For example, write levothyroxin 50 micrograms, not 0.050 milligrams or 50 ug. Badly handwritten prescriptions can lead to mistakes, and it is the legal duty of the doctor to write legibly (Box 7). In prescriptions for controlled drugs or those with a potential for abuse it is safer to write the strength and total amount in words, to prevent tampering. Instructions for use must be clear and the maximum daily dose mentioned. Use indelible ink.

Box 7: Legal obligation to write clearly

Doctors are legally obliged to write clearly, as emphasized in the UK Court of Appeal ruling in the following case. A doctor had written a prescription for Amoxil tablets (amoxicillin). The pharmacist misread this and dispensed Daonil (glibenclamide) instead. The patient was not a diabetic and suffered permanent brain damage as a result of taking the drug.

The court indicated that a doctor owed a duty of care to a patient to write a prescription clearly and with sufficient legibility to allow for possible mistakes by a busy pharmacist. The court concluded that the word Amoxil on the prescription could have been read as Daonil. It found that the doctor had been in breach of his duty to write clearly and had been negligent. The court concluded that the doctor's negligence had contributed to the negligence of the pharmacist, although the greater proportion of the responsibility (75%) lay with the pharmacist.

On appeal the doctor argued that the word on the prescription standing on its own could reasonably have been read incorrectly but that various other aspects of the prescription should have alerted the pharmacist. The strength prescribed was appropriate for Amoxil but not for Daonil; the prescription was for Amoxil to be taken three times a day while Daonil was usually taken once a day; the prescription was for only seven days' treatment, which was unlikely for Daonil; and finally, all prescriptions of drugs for diabetes were free under the National Health Service but the patient did not claim free treatment for the drug. All of these factors should have raised doubts in the mind of the pharmacist and as a result he should have contacted the doctor. Therefore, the chain of causation from the doctor's bad handwriting to the eventual injury was broken.

This argument was rejected in the Court of Appeal. The implications of this ruling are that doctors are under a legal duty of care to write clearly, that is with sufficient legibility to allow for mistakes by others. When illegible handwriting results in a breach of that duty, causing personal injury, then the courts will be prepared to punish the careless by awarding sufficient damages. Liability does not end when the prescription leaves the doctor's consulting room. It may also be a cause of the negligence of others.

Dosage form and total amount

Only use standard abbreviations that will be known to the pharmacist.

Information for the package label

S stands for Signa (Latin for ‘write’). All information following the S or the word ‘Label’ should be copied by the pharmacist onto the label of the package. This includes how much of the drug is to be taken, how often, and any specific instructions and warnings. These should be given in lay language. Do not use abbreviations or statements like ‘as before’ or ‘as directed’. When stating ‘as required’, the maximum dose and minimum dose interval should be indicated. Certain instructions for the pharmacist, such as ‘Add 5 ml measuring spoon’ are written here, but of course are not copied onto the label.

Prescriber's initials or signature

Name and address of the patient; age (for children and elderly)

Box 8: Incomplete labels

The label on the drug package is very important for the patient as a reminder of the instructions for use. In many cases, however, labels are incomplete. An analysis of 1533 (=100%) labels showed:

No label or illegible
1 %

Quantity not recorded
50 %

No directions, or only ‘as before’/’as directed’
26 %

No date
14 %

The data listed above are the core of every prescription. Additional information may be added, such as the type of health insurance the patient has. The layout of the prescription form and the period of validity may vary between countries. The number of drugs per prescription may be restricted. Some countries require prescriptions for opiates on a separate sheet. Hospitals often have their own standard prescription forms. As you can check for yourself, all prescriptions in this chapter include the basic information given above.
A prescription should include:

Summary:

* Name, address, telephone of prescriber
* Date
* Generic name of the drug, strength
* Dosage form, total amount
* Label: instructions, warnings
* Name, address, age of patient
* Signature or initials of prescriber

From Tomas Madrigal (gracias Tomas)

"I may not support the continued funneling of our brightest into the fires of academia and debt, but taking the words my mother said to me as a young boy, "I don't care if you rebel, but if you rebel, you will have to know what it is you are rebelling against". Education, whether good or bad does not change the world, but it gives those who will change the world an idea of what they are up against. That is the threat that the 43 future teachers in Iguala, Guerrero posed to the state, they had rightfully stood up to for the last remaining legacy of the Mexican Revolution, the ability of future generations to change the world."

The new Finance Minister has some bad news for us, he will have to say SA has run out of money, writes Allister Sparks.

He will face the harsh fact that government expenditure is now greater than its income. And that can only mean misery.

Revenue from mining, crippled by strikes, reduced production and low prices, is static. So is revenue from industry. The weakened rand has failed to boost exports as government ministers insisted it would; it has simply increased inflation and increased the cost of capital imports. Meanwhile, government expenditure has gone through the roof.

A year ago when Nene’s predecessor, Pravin Gordhan, presented his last budget, he warned that if the government continued with its prevailing rate of expenditure, the point would be reached where it would be unable to maintain its welfare payments as well as the cost of development projects to which it was already committed.

Well, that moment has arrived. And something will have to give and whatever Nene says, the facts will be there in the figures for all to see.

The Zuma administration has squandered our surpluses and more with profligacy and corruption. Everything from Nkandla to expensive first-class air fares, from a 145 percent rise in the total cost of the public service to having the world’s largest and most expensive cabinet for a country of our level of development.

It is because, as Peter Bruce pointed out in his Business Day column last week, welfare payments and the public service alone are consuming 56.4 percent of all state revenue, leaving only 43.6 percent for everything else.

It is because of nepotism and crony-capitalism which has seen key jobs in just about every sector go to cadre deployments based on political loyalty rather than administrative competence.

It is because of a fragmented ruling party with different factions trying to move in different directions, so that nothing constructive gets done.

But most of all, it is because of a president who neither understands basic economics nor seems to care about it.

The concept of the developmental state is in itself a paralysing factor. It means the government wants to control everything, even the way business gets done. But the fact is the government is the least competent performer there is.

From the Post Office to Eskom, from the SABC to South African Airways, from the education system to the health services, from the state of the SA National Defence Force to e-tolling and the extravagance of the unaccountable State Security Agency, all are in crisis. There is hardly a single parastatal that is not dysfunctional and bankrupt. And now there can be no more subsidies to sustain them.

The worst of it is that by its persistent meddling in the private sector, by its generally negative attitude towards business, the government is damaging the only source of revenue it has.

The government itself makes no money. Its revenue comes from taxes. In other words the private sector. Individual taxes and corporate taxes, VAT and customs duties, road taxes and vehicle taxes and fuel taxes.

And it is that meddling and discouragement of the private sector that is reducing the government’s revenue, or at least preventing it from increasing while expenditure is ballooning out of control.

Then we also have the breathtaking R3-trillion nuclear power deal that Zuma has secretly struck with Russia’s Vladimir Putin. Government spin doctors are trying to cloud it with a verbal dust storm about other agreements, but there can be little doubt it is a done deal.

And what an appalling deal it is. The Russians will build and operate the plants and our children and grandchildren will be paying them through doubled electricity fees even unto the third and fourth generation.
***
Well Allister, the question is, will liberals finally realise their mistake? Will SA's popular TV and radio economists start telling the inconvenient truth? Will the media stop bluffing and do away with political correctness? Will government scrap Affirmative Action and Black Economic Empowerment which have been strangling this country's economy to death? Will the government stop nationalising agricultural land? Will all forms of quotas be scrapped?

The answer is "No" and that is why SA will continue along its downward slide into bankruptcy.

> Hear what Prof Tam David West has to say..on religion/politics..
>
> Religion is a personal thing and every man has the right to choose his own, or practice it the way he likes. Most of the sycophants that use religion to defame the character of Buhari are not even practicing their acclaimed self righteousness. Many of them are occultists. They kill and conduct daily human sacrifices to remain in power. Buhari is a man of integrity and I respect him a lot. But because majority of those who have looted this country to poverty are afraid to end up in jail or loose their ill gotten wealth, they chose to fabricate lies against Buhari. They hire hungry and morally corrupted scholars to do the dirty jobs on their behalf.
> It is quite unfortunate that Nigerians buy all the lies they trade through the media.
> This is the only country where people prefer to believe in a hear say than make a research.
> Only a minute population of Nigerians are willing to investigate an allegation before they draw conclusions.
> Nigerians have resolved to be praise singers to corrupt leaders. We have failed to ask for accountability. Our conscience has been beclouded with religious and ethnic sentiments.
> Our sense of judgement and reason have been blinded by poverty. We chose to mortgage our tomorrow and the future of our children for the rice and a few Naira notes they share during elections.
> All we believe is the roads, the bridges, the railways, the electricity they build only on televisions.
> I always ask my self these questions:
> 1. Where are the roads? The Abuja - Lokoja road was awarded by Obasanjo's administration. He spent 8 years in the office. Then Yaradua and Goodluck spent another 8 years. Now if Goodluck is elected, he will be spending another 8 years. This will amount to 24 years and 180 km road is yet to be completed. Enugu - Onitsha road was also awarded by the Obasanjo administration and till date, a journey that is supposed to take 45 minutes can take you 8 hours if it rains. Enugu- PH road is on the same series. What about Uyo - Calabar route? Just to mention a few.
> 2. Where is the power? They sold all the NEPA to their friends. We pay for the light that was not supplied.
> 3. Our education and health system go bad everyday. Lecturers and Health workers spent more time at home than in the schools and hospitals as a result of incessant strikes.
> 4. The government failed to provide us with security. People are being killed everyday and yet government comes out to tell us they are in control.
> 4. Why are we pretending that all is well? It is only in Nigeria where monies develop wings and fly. $20 billion oil money disappeared and they said it was $10 billion. Forensic investigators were hired and that was the end of the story. N20 billion pension fund stolen and nothing came out of it. $9.3 million seized in South Africa and government claimed it was meant for ammunition purchase. The immigration scandal has also been swept under the carpet because the senate could not proceed with their investigation. The man behind the contract is sitting among the high seats in the senate. Innocent people were defrauded and they at the same time lost their lives yet, we have a transparent governance.
> 5. Why are we praising government as if they are doing whatever with their personal money. How many people in their various communities have they provided scholarship with their personal money before they got elected? The reason they got elected is to manage our resources and not to loot us dry.
> One thing I know is that we will not have any meaningful development except if we make a change.
> Age or no age, Buhari is a better option for the present day Nigerian.
>
> Prof Tam, thank you for this great write up.

I use to hate this man growing up because that's what they taught us in school. Aquino = Good,…. Marcos = Bad. But then i realized not everything they teach you in school is true. History is written by the Victors.

When I was young I was a supporter of the Aquino due to the fact that most people considered them as heroes, and the media and elementary grade history-books (SIBIKA) considers President Marcos as the villain. Even 2-3 years ago I am a great supporter of PNoy but as his reign as the president I am unsatisfied with his governance.

Then, a classmate and a friend told me that President Marcos was the best president and I my reaction is like "WTF!? that guy is the villain for goodness sake!".

Curiosity got the better of me and I research the history of President Marcos, there I understood that the people I looked up to in my childhood was false that is painted with baised opinion and the media, there my eyes opens as it showed me that the 'villain' painted during my 1st level of education is actually a HERO of this country.

I now know what President Marcos did, and it showed it was all for the best of my country and those who succeded him, especially the Aquino, are all frauds that should never have been given the position of the leader of this country!

Here are more facts..

( since ML was enacted for the purpose of their elimination )
Wala rin patunay na nagnakaw siya ng $36 billion

noong 1960 - 1980
Dahil walang ganong kalakeng pera ang Pilipinas
Nasa $3 - 5 billion lang ang pondo ng gobyerno kada taon
At bago mo makuha ung $36 billion
That means 90% ng pera ng bayan nanakawin mo taon taon
Which is so obvious to the point na
Di na aandar ung pamahalaan
( But thats not the case )
We saw many programs such as
- Masagana 99 Rice Self Sufficiency ( Nasira din by mid 1980s
- Metro Aide projects
- NLEX
- LRT First In South East Asia
- MIA was rennovated

( In 1981 MIA was among the modern in ASEAN )
- Hospitals
- 20,000 Classrooms in Schol projects in 2 years
- 1967 . Modernization of Air Force to Jet Age
- 1977. Modernization of newer Air Force Jets
- 1979. Development of Local missile programs

SPACE PROGAM ang Pilipinas before 2000!
Totoong baon sa utang ang Pilipinas noong 1980
Pero alam nyo ba...
Na mas baon ang South Korea kesa sa atin sa utang??
Sila napaandar nila ung inutang nila
> Naging mga LARGE BUSINESSES gaya ng
> Samsung , Kia, Hyundai, Hanjin, LG atbp
Ang Pilipinas wala. lahat ng mga pinundar na negosyo
gaya ng car manufacturing noon.
Bago pa man nag 1990s na bankrupt lahat
Remember 1983 - 1989?
How many Millions of Filipinos lost their jobs
to to political turmoil??
ang ganda ganda ng Economiya ng Pilipinas
nung 1973-1981. we were poised to be
at per capita $990 by 1987
Instead it was delayed by more than 20 years
1981 : $650
1982 : $705
1983 : $810
1984 : $705 ( Marcos was no longer in control )
1985 : $665
1986 : $555
1987 : $610 < ( was due to rising prices )
( So why blame 1983 - 1986 economic downfall on Marcos? )
Why not blame it on violent events that took place?
( That made BILLIONS OF US$ fly away from our Economy )
in just months left thousands unemployed
and left millions more to be forced to go Abroad!
Anlaking kawalan non
Mala Malaysia na sana na Economy by 1989
Instead na naibalik natin ung Economic status natin
with Malaysia and Thailand by 1990s
Wala. naunahan pa tayo ng Thailand at Indonesia!
( Is Marcos to Blame?? )

In 1981 our GDP was larger than Thailand and Malaysia
and our per capita was $705 ( half of South Korea )
Now our per capita is not even 1/8 of South Korea

Me 6 Years Old Elder Sister Will Take Care My 4 Years Old Brother And 2 Years Old Sister. I Become A Mother To My Siblings At 6 Years Old. My Mother 20 Years Struggle And Suffer So Much To Raise Us. But Today This Idiot Degree Holder Never Appreciate What Me & My Mother Sacrifice For Them. My Sister Also Supporting Him And Embarrassing Me.

Yes, When I Was Girl I Use To Talk Bad About My Mother Because I'm Angry My Mother Leave My Father. I Love My Father A lot. That Time I Don't Understand My Parents Problem. I Thought My Mother Made Mistakes. So I Hate My Mother. But Now Once I Grown-up I Understand Everything What My Mother When Though With Her Marriage Life. How My Father Hurt My Mother. So I Started To Understand My Mother And Today I Love Her A Lot. To Me My Father & Mother Are Good Parents. Especially My Mother Sacrifice Her Life For Us.

I Feel So Hurting And Sad The Way My Brother & Sister Talk To Me And My Mother. I'm Mentally Become Sick Because Of This. They Keep Calling Me Mental Or Prostitute. I Feel like Kill Him And Go To Jail. Actually I Recorded This Video From Halfway Argument. He Talk To Me And My Mother More Worst And Worst Before Recording This Video. 4 Times He Came To Hit Me. Once I Called Police He Stop Using Bad Words And Argue. The Police Also Came For They Never Arrest Him. When The Police Around He Talk Very Politely, Slowly And With Good Manner.

He Told The Police He Is Not A Gangster Or Low Class Person. He Is A Degree Holder. My Mother Cry To The Police And Said "My Son Calling Me Prostitute. He Saying He Feel Embarrassing And Shame To Call Me Mother". I Saw My Mother Crying When I'm 10 Years Old When My Father Beaten Her. After Many Years I Saw My Mother Crying Today Because Of My Bladdy Brother. Even When My Father Passed Away My Mother Never Cry. But Today She Cry Because Of This Idiot. All She Wants Is Peace. My Mother Want To Stay Alone And Take Good Rest. She Don't Want Any Disturbance.

My Mother Advising My Sister & This Idiot To Move Out From Her House And Stay Independently. She Wants Them To Learn How To Survive Life Alone And Be Independently. This Is What She Wants. But They Both Not Listening To Her. My Mother Always Use Me As Good Example. Because I'm Pass 8 Years Staying Alone Independently. I Never Disturb My Mother. Sometimes Financially I Support My Mother If I Have Money. But This Idiot Still Want To Depend My Mother.

What Should I Do Now? How To Teach Him A Lesson? Should I Murder Him And Go To Jail? Because I'm Mental Right. I Need Public Opinion And Advice.

• Conclusion:

At present the gravest problem that Pakistan is facing is terrorism. It has become a headache for federation and a nightmare for public. Though, it is a global issue but Pakistan has to bear the brunt of it. Pakistan’s involvement in the War on Terror has further fuelled the fire. We are facing war like situation against the terrorists. This daunting situation is caused due to several factors. These factors include social injustice, economic disparity, political instability, religious intolerance and also external hands or international conspiracies. A handful of people who have their vicious interests to fulfil have not only taken countless innocent lives but also distorted the real image of Islam before the world through their heinous acts. Terrorist acts like suicide bombings have become a norm of the day. On account of these attacks Pakistan is suffering from ineffaceable loss ranging from civilian to economic. People have become numerical figures, blown up in numbers every now and then. Terrorists have not spared any place. Bazars, mosques, educational institutes, offices, hotels, no place is safe anymore.

Though terrorism has no accepted definition, yet it can be defined as the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aim or the calculated use of violence or threat of violence against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature, this is done through intimidation or coercion or inciting fear. According to FBI’s definition, Terrorism is the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objective.

The religion of Islam (Submission), advocates freedom, peace and mutual agreement and admonishes aggression. The following verses make it very clear.

“And do not aggress; GOD dislikes the aggressors”. (Quran 5:87)

“You shall resort to pardon, advocate tolerance, and disregard the ignorant”. (Quran: 7:199)

The relations of Muslims (Submitters) with others are based primarily on peace, mutual respect and trust. The theme in the Quran is peace, unless there is oppression or injustice that cannot be resolved by all the peaceful means available. The true religion of Islam forbids the killing of innocent people, irrespective of the cause, religious, political or social beliefs.

“...You shall not kill * GOD has made life sacred * except in the course of justice. These are His commandments to you that you may understand.” (Quran 6:151)

“You shall not kill any person * for GOD has made life sacred — except in the course of justice.” (Quran17:33)

In Islam, an amazingly powerful emphasis is laid on developing love for mankind and on the vital importance of showing mercy and sympathy towards every creature of Allah Almighty, including human beings and animals. For indeed, love and true sympathy is the very antidote of terrorism.

Injustice is one of the foremost factors that breed terrorism. When the grievances of the people are not redressed they resort to violent actions. So this is the case with Pakistan where timely justice has always been a far cry. Hence, the delayed justice is working as incentive for victims and dragging them to the swamp of terrorist organisations.

Illiteracy is the root causes of extremism and terrorism. More than one in five men aged 15 to 24 unable to read or write, and only one in 20 is in tertiary education. such a high illiteracy rate has made Pakistan vulnerable to terrorism. furthermore, technical and vocational education, and adult literacy, are especially important but unfortunately have been neglected the most in Baluchistan, Khyber Pukhtunkhwa and the Tribal Areas. Illiteracy and lack of skills provide fertile ground for those who wish to recruit young men and women to their cause, especially when significant monetary payments are attached.

Regarding poverty, it is also an incubating cause of terrorism. And it is said that “a hungry man is an angry man.” Notably, majority of people in Pakistan are living below poverty line. While especially for the youngsters, unemployment has made the matter worse. In these adverse circumstances, some people go to the level of extremism and even commit suicide. These are the people whose services are hired by the terrorist groups and they become easy prey to terrorism.

Food insecurity is also linked with militancy and violence. When people remain unable to afford food and cannot meet their basic needs civil strife grows. A report by the Islamabad-based Sustainable Development Policy Institute The highest levels of food insecurity, for instance, exist in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, according to the report, where 67.7 per cent of the people are insecure. The next highest level is in Baluchistan, with food insecurity at 61.2 per cent, and then in Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa, 56.2 per cent. In Pakistan some extremist forces are exploiting the feelings of lower and lower middle class food insecure people. They are motivating their unemployed youth to commit heinous crimes such as suicide attacks against innocent people.

Another reason of terrorism is dissatisfaction. When a person is dissatisfied with the rulers and thinks that his rights are being humiliated or exiled, his living of life has not been compensated, he is deprived of rightful inheritance to office, wrongly imprisoned and property confiscated then he joins some religious parties. It does not matter which organisation it would be. None of the organisations has any importance for him. Adopting an organisation would only save him from the critical situation he is in and leaves him to play in the hands of his so-called leaders who destroy his public sense of security.

Today’s Pakistan is facing democratic turmoil. A path chartered by the military regime of Ayub Khan, Yahya Khan then of Zia-ul-Haq was altered by yet another military regime that of Musharraf. All these regimes produced political instability, poor governance, institutional paralysis, by passing the rule of law, socio-economic downfall and so on. These fragile conditions along with deteriorating law and order situation have provided a fertile ground for terrorism to grow.

Furthermore, lack of proper government set-up and lack of coordination and information sharing between various institutions of government is also a cause of behind the escalating terrorist activities. Not to talk of providing security to common people, our law enforcing agencies (LEAs) have completely failed to protect high officials of the country. In the absence of law and proper trial the terrorists are entrenching their roots firmly. Failure of the (LAEs) to bring the terrorist to book has emboldened terror mongers to strike at a target of their choice at will. Schools, hospitals, markets and places of worship have become their favourite targets.

The soviet Afghanistan war was the most critical event responsible for spreading militancy and intolerance in Pakistan. A fundamental change that altered the very character of Pakistani society occurred after establishment of the soviet backed communist regime in Afghanistan. The aftermath of the soviet withdrawal exposed the damage, transformation of violence and Weaponisation into Pakistani society. It ultimately plagued Pakistan with a new trend commonly referred as “Kalashnikov Culture” and “Talbanisation”.

Religion became the dominant force during the Zia regime when the Islamization of laws and education became a state policy. And the Islamic legislation was promulgated and a number of Islamic enactments were made, including the Hudood and blasphemy laws. One may also mention the vital role of the jihadis in their fight against the Soviet military occupation with the American support, as well as the generous patronage extended by the government to the religious parties and groups. It may be added that various religious groups benefited from the support they received from abroad, in particular from Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Religious Madrassah is not something new for the Islam or our country. But after Russian attack on Afghanistan it took a new dimension. They were being used as recruitment centres for jihadis. Thousands of Mujahedeen were trained and sent to Afghanistan for so-called jihad. After the fall of Russia, a sizeable number of the jihadis who returned to Pakistan got involved in terrorist activities.

Religious intolerance is another factor which is adding fuel to the fire of terrorism. youth, educated through religious Madrassahs, are indoctrinated with extreme ideas. They become intolerant towards other religions and even other sects of their own religion. They impose their own extreme ideas and vent their fanaticism thorough violent actions. Intolerance makes society jungle. It is proving destructive phenomenon for social harmony, political stability, and economic growth.

This was perhaps an end to our long established pluralistic culture and values. Result was a wave of vicious cycle of Sectarian and Inter-sect and Interfaith violence/terrorism.

Religious extremism that took its roots in Pakistan after the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979 is proving venomous for Pakistan. The increased danger of sectarian motivated acts of violence, have gained in power and influence over the recent past. External as well as internal influences have impacted the sectarian issues and have served to further intensify the magnitude and seriousness of the problem. Sectarian violence, therefore, was an extremely rare and unheard of phenomenon in Pakistan with sectarian disputes being very localized and confined rather than being frequent and widespread.

This religious extremism took a new shape of terrorism after 9/11. After the incident of 9/11 suicide bombing in Pakistan has become a norm of the day. The American invasion and occupation of Afghanistan, as well as the military operation in Pakistan, along with the American drone attacks, have served to fuel religious radicalism leading to violent reaction. The breakdown of state structures in Afghanistan created a void which was quickly filled by groups and individuals who took it upon themselves to continue the lost battle. Some of them also intruded into Pakistani tribal areas, thus inviting the US displeasure. Flushing out these foreign fighters by Pakistani security forces made Pakistan a battle ground, as foreign militants and some of their local hosts, joined hands to counter the security forces.

The drone strikes have increased anti-Americanism in Pakistan society and the region. The terrorists have used the collateral damage to maximize the environment and society to their benefit. Families of people killed in collateral damage become ideal nursery for suicide bombers In Pakistan society drone attacks are popularly believed to have caused even more civilian casualties than is actually the case. The persistence of these attacks on Pakistani territory is continuously creating public outrages and alienating people from government and Army. The drone is a tactical weapon and has certainly given good results tactically to support coalition forces operation on their sides of the border but strategically history has many unanswered questions.

On account of anti-campaign and drone attacks scores of people have become homeless and even some have lost all their possessions Coupled with this, governments indifference towards these internally displaced people has further deteriorating the situation and encouraging people to join anti-state actors. Negligence on the part of government has alienated the people and has placed Pakistan in an undesirable situation domestically.

Furthermore, indiscriminate and brutal persecution of innocent citizen of Kashmir and Palestine by Indian and Israeli forces respectively is further boosting the monster of terrorism. the people of Kashmir and Palestine have been denied their basic rights for decades. Hence their feelings of antagonism springing out in the form violent acts and also their supporters are conducting these types of acts here in Pakistan in order the draw the attention of the world towards the injustices being done to them.

Pakistan has done its level best to rid terrorism and terrorists from its soil. In first step, many terrorist organisations were banned by the Musharraf government. After those successful military operations namely Rah-e-Nijat and Rah-e-Rast have been conducted. Pakistan army has fought bravely against terrorist and has destroyed their safe dens. It has broken the backbone of the terrorists and has forced them to flee. These operations still keep ongoing in some tribal areas. In this context, it is worth-mentioning that public support to military operations is very essential, and without people’s backing no army can win this ‘different war’ against terrorism.

For Pakistan the consequences of being the epicentre of the war on terror have been disastrous physically, psychologically and economically. Nobody understands terrorism better than us (Pakistanis). We have been victims of various manifestations of it since the Soviet Afghan war. Since 9/11, the wave of suicide bombing has so far killed scores of innocent Pakistani civilians and muffled the already slow pace of our economic growth. The financial cost of the ongoing global war on terror in the last two years alone has been $35 billion. This has badly affected in particular, the socio-economic development of Pakistan. Lest we forget, we even lost our prominent political leader Benazir Bhutto to an act of terror.

Since September 11, 2001, 21,672 Pakistani civilians have lost their lives or have been seriously injured in an ongoing fight against terrorism. The Pakistan Army has lost 2,795 soldiers in the war and 8,671 have been injured. There have been 3,486 bomb blasts in the country, including 283 major suicide attacks. More than 3.5 million have been displaced. The damage to the Pakistani economy is estimated at $68 billion over the last ten years. Over 200,000 Pakistani troops were deployed at the frontline and 90,000 soldiers are fighting against militants on the Afghan border.

The ongoing insurgency has accelerated the already dismal economic situation and has affected almost each and every economic aspects of the country, particularly in FATA and Khyber Pukhtunkhwa. All the main resources of revenue in affected areas have been hurt, including agriculture, the tourism industry, manufacturing and small-scale industry.

Due to insurgency, the loss to agriculture alone amounts to Rs.35 billion. The breakdown in law and order situation has damaged the fruit based economy of the northern areas. It has rendered billions of rupes losses to the landowners, labourers, dealers and farmers who earn their livelihood from these orchards. Also, the Economic survey of Pakistan report shows that the share of agriculture in the gross domestic product (GDP) has been constantly falling. It accounted for 25.99 per cent of GDP in 1999-2000; however, gradually its share shrank to 21.3 per cent in 2007-2008. The figures show that terrorism has not only decreased the productive capacity of agricultural activity in these regions but also in the entire country.

The manufacturing sector has been hard hit by frequent incidents of terrorism and has created an uncertain environment resulting into low level of economic growth. The manufacturing sector is witnessing the lowest-ever share of 18.2 per cent in the GDP over the last five years. In addition, the small and medium-size enterprises which are key area of manufacturing in Pakistan have been affected across the country because of power shortages and recurrent terrorist attacks.

According to a Harvard study (December 2000), higher levels of terrorism risk are associated with lower levels of net FDI. In case of Pakistan, terrorism has affected the allocation of firms investing money in the country. As a result, FDI, which had witnessed a steep rise over the previous several years, was adversely affected by the terrorist acts in the country, especially in FATA and other areas of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa.

According to the World Economic Forum, Pakistan ranked 113 out of 130 countries in 2009 as a tourist destination. The low ranking is attributed to incidents of terrorism and the lack of a tourism regulatory framework in Pakistan. On account of persistent terrorist attacks many hotels in the northwest areas have been closed. According to government’s own estimates, the hotel industry in Swat valley has suffered a loss of Rs. 60 billion. Many workers have lost their jobs and transport has also face a severe blow.

Due to war on terror, local people of war-ridden areas are migrating to other areas of Pakistan. Country has seen the largest migration since independence in 1947. These people have left their homes, businesses, possessions and property back home. This large influx of people and their rehabilitation is an economic burden for Pakistan. Unemployment is still prevalent and now the question of providing employment to these migrants has also become a serious concern. This portion of population is contributing nothing worthwhile to the national income yet they have to be benefitted from it. This unproductive lot of people is a growing economic problem of Pakistan

Social impacts have also been caused by this war. In a society where terror exists cannot be healthy. Social disorganization has occurred due to terrorism. Social relations, economic transactions, free moments, getting education, offering prayers etc. have suffered. Pakistan’s participation in the anti-terrorism campaign has led to massive unemployment, homelessness, poverty and other social problems and ills. In addition, frequent incidents of terrorism and displacement of the local \population have severely affected the social fabric.

On the political front Pakistan is badly impacted in fighting the war against terrorism. It has taken many valuable steps to defeat terrorists. In spite of all the sacrifices the country is making it is branded to be a country insincere or half-hearted in fighting the menace. Every time the country is told to “do more”. It is further alleged for infiltration of the militants inside US-NATO dominated Afghanistan. The failure of the Western troops in the neighbourhood is blamed on Pakistan. This situation has eroded the trust between the governments and caused international image problem for the country.

Similarly the terror has brought in its wake psychological problems. Fear in the hearts of the people is created. Trauma, depressions and confusion have been increased. The people feel insecure and unsafe whenever in their daily life activities, as time and again they watch the terror events taking place in different cities. Those have especially been suffered who have closely witnessed the suicidal bombings.

The religion is also impacted by the war against terrorism. The religion of Islam is perceived to be the one tolerating extremism and terrorism abroad. In the western world people equate violence, abuse against women and minority rights, and several acts of terrorism like suicidal bombing and coercion with Islam and Muslims. Whenever any such inhuman act takes place they tie it with Islam and its followers. When in the UK terror acts were committed the authority blamed it on Pakistani citizens for instance. And why these days Pakistanis are discriminately interrogated and have to be screened before they inter the US is due to the fact that they are Pakistanis and Muslims.

Thorough analysis of the causes of terrorism and its ineffaceable impacts indicate that in Pakistan this phenomenon has not come to fore overnight. It has taken decades to flourish and involves many factors. Since terrorism is a multifaceted, the solution has to be multi-pronged. In view of the root causes described in above paragraphs, the possible remedies could include:

• To begin with, a national commission needs to be set up, which identifies the fault lines and the root causes of the rise of extremism in Pakistan taking into consideration the post-Nine-Eleven developments.

• It should also take up the question of reforming the madrassas. The heads of all the major religious groups should be contacted and engaged to explore short-term and long-term solutions.

• Our universities and research institutes should take up the intellectual task of re-interpreting the Islamic injunctions in the light of modern knowledge and 21st century challenges (with emphasis on social justice).

• The government must improve its performance. Bad governance and corruption have lowered its credibility and clout,

• Parliament must debate Pakistan’s present relationship with the US, with particular reference to the American war in Afghanistan and operations in Pakistan.

• Our government should make efforts to develop sector. Without any doubt, these efforts will play a crucial role not only in providing employment to the millions of people but will also eliminate poverty in the country.

• Pakistan’s government should particularly emphasise the need of technical education by promoting it. In this respect, more institutes should be opened in order to promote technical education.

• It is mentionable that there are two types of terrorists, extremists and moderates. In order to cope with terrorism, our government should neutralise the moderate terrorists through reconciliation by offering them general pardon and asking them to renounce terrorism. Even extremist insurgents can be offered mediation. Nevertheless, those militants who reject the offer could be fought through military operations.

• Nonetheless, for their on global and regional interests, US-led western allies must not only increase the military and economic aid of Pakistan but also provide direct market access to Pak products on zero rate duty to help stabilise the country’s bleak economy in the wake of the war against terror.

• As Pakistan has been successfully coping with the menace of terrorism, US-led some western countries including India should also give up their propaganda campaign against Islamabad and blame game against its intelligence agency ISI.

• US should help in resolving the Kashmir dispute to deal with the problem of militancy in the region.

• In order to fight terrorism, Pakistan’s media should play a key role. It must point out the criminal activities of the militants like hostage-taking, killing of the innocent people? torching the government buildings including girl schools and car-snatching. It should also indicate that Islam is a religion of peace and does not allow suicide attacks.

• As Pakistan is already facing various crises of grave nature in wake of terrorism, so our politicians must stop manipulating the same for their own self-interests. By setting aside their differences and by showing power of tolerance, both our rulers and opposition parties need to act upon a policy of national reconciliation to cope with the problem of terrorism and to stand before external pressure.

• Finally, our politicians, general masses and security forces must show a strong sense of unity to fight terrorism,

To conclude, Pakistan is a peace loving nation and playing its important role in combating terror. Recognition of efforts to fight menace of terrorism and sacrifices rendered thereof are testimony to the commitment and resolve to bring peace in the region. Unfortunately sometimes its commitment is doubted by some of its allies. Mistrust can lead to diversion of efforts, which will not be beneficial to common objective of peace in the region. Pakistan is a responsible nation; fully capable of defending its territorial integrity. Pakistan has singularly committed large forces to combat menace of terrorism more than any other country. No foreign troops are either present or deployed on Pakistan soil.

All citizens of Pakistan must propagate moderate vibrant culture of Pakistan to promote good will of world community and shun misconstrued beliefs. Attacks on security forces personnel are executed at the sponsorship of hostile intelligence agencies. Such anti state elements must be singled out and brought to lime light to defeat evil agendas of our enemies. Pakistan has sacrificed the most in the ongoing war on terror; criticizing Pakistan’s efforts at national/international forum will be counter-productive to the overall objectives of war on terror.

SARAH RIZVI (IPS) : An inspiration to all..

SARAH RIZVI (IPS) failed in the first two attempts in the preliminary exam but succeeded in the third attempt.

Sarah Rizvi, 29 is the only Muslim woman IPS (Indian Police Service) officer in Gujarat Police. She is the role model for every parent who wants to teach their girl child and for all those women aspirants of Civil Service Exams. She is from the 2008 batch of Gujarat cadre.
Born in Mumbai, Sarah belongs to an educated family. Her father Afzal Ahmed is a Science Graduate and Mother Nigar Rizvi is an alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University. Her brother Wasif Rizvi is a civil Engineer employed in Saudi Arabia and sister Sameera is a computer science graduate settled in Dubai. Sarah married to Munawar Khan, a trainee Asst. Security Commissioner in RPF, in 2008.

Excerpts from interview with Sarah Rizvi

Q: Tell us about your childhood and education.
Sarah: I am from a humble background. My father was a small businessman dealing in readymade garments. My grandfather died early in my life but my maternal grandfather loved me very much. I was born in Mumbai and brought up and got educated in Mumbai. I did graduation in commerce from MMK College, Mumbai.

Q: Why did you opt for Civil Services?
Sarah: After completing graduation from MMK College, I attended a lecture on competitive exam. I got inspired by a lecture of Dr. K.M. Arif, educationist and chairman of Dream Foundation.

I failed in the first two attempts in the preliminary exam but succeeded in the third attempt. I wanted to become Chartered Accountant and completed Foundation Course while doing graduation. But Dr. Arif suggested that I should go for civil services. My family supported me in decision making. MESCO, Modern Educational Social & Cultural Organisation, a trust in Mumbai helped me financially. Finally I got training for the IPS from Mussoorie, Uttarakhand.

Q: How did Muslim society react over your achievement? Did you get any awards?
Sarah: I cleared UPSC exam in 2008. AMU recognized and awarded me. Even when I topped in XII exam, I was appreciated and felicitated by our neighborhood in Andheri (w), Mumbai.

Q: Can you share your experience of the first day as an IPS officer and where were you posted first?
Sarah: My first posting was in Jamnagar district of Gujarat as a probationer IPS for the six months and then I was transferred as Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP in Gondal, Rajkot. On my first day I detected a case where four bikers looted a man within 24 hours. That’s the most memorable day of my life.

Q: Women are emotional. Do you have any experience when you got emotional?
Sarah: Whether men or women, Police are also human being. We have to deal with the people who are in distress and we are trained for it. We have to be tough because we deal with criminals and getting emotional will affect our duty towards the society.

Q: Your worst day as an IPS officer.
Sarah: After becoming an IPS officer, I loved my job and never got upset with my duties. In fact I am proud to be a woman IPS Officer. Having said that I think when Naxalites killed 78 CRPF personnel in Dantewada I felt very bad. That day was my worst day, I think.

Q: Are you related to any social activities besides being an IPS.
Sarah: I am member of MESCO, a Mumbai based NGO and they call me very often in their programmes to inspire and guide others.

Q: What’s your hobby?
Sarah: I love my mother tongue Urdu. I listened to Urdu Gazalas and also tried my hand in writing it although could not publish it. I used to write articles in my college days which got published. I also like to cook and do it very often for my family.

Q: Do you have a dream that remains to be fulfilled?
Sarah: All my dreams have come true. But, yes, after becoming an IPS I would like to change the image or the public perception about the Police force.

Q: Who is your Role Model?
Sarah: While in training as IPS, I was very impressed and learnt a lot from our Director Mr. K. Vijay Kumar. He was the director of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel National Police Academy in 2009-10, an IPS from Tamilnadu cadre.

Q: Who is your best friend?
Sarah: My sister Sameera is my best friend.

Q: Any message for Muslim women.
Sarah: I would like to convey to all women that life is a precious gift from Allah and only we can make or spoil it. I urge Muslim parents to educate their girl children and make them capable of making their own decisions. I dedicate a couplet to those girls who are taking education as a challenge…

Everywhere is tensed up. The political stadium called Abia state is set for another history.
USO as he is popularly called has become a household name in every town and villages in Abia state. Master energy or USO is known by small and big. Some has concluded he is a compensation from God for the wasted years.
His benevolence is not seen on bill boards nor does he hire the little nza's to sing praises for him on his radio. His dedication towards humanity can not be covered or hidden. We know his contribution in empowering Abia youths though another is taken the praises. God knows all.
USO has become so popular that people from other states of Nigeria is campaigning for his emergence as the next executive governor of Abia state.
Zoning or no zoning, party or no party. USO is on the move. Any party he runs for sure grabs the ticket.
Anya anyi emepe go. Our eyes are open. Abia is done with bad governance. Soon non payment of workers salary will be over, gullies on our roads will be a thing of the past. Education and health will soon receive attention. Jobs and infrastructure's will appear.
The Pharaoh's of Egypt. Abia must be free or remember the red sea.

USO is our man on top. God bless Abia.

(MSG FROM VICTIM,THE GIRL RECORDED)
This Idiot My Own Younger Brother. Today He Raise His Hand To Hit Me And My Mother. He Was Calling Me Mental, Bodoh And Prostitute. So My Mother Scolded Him. After That He Started To Use Vulgaris Words Toward My Mother. He Said My Mother & My Father & Me Mental. My Mother And Me A Prostitute. Any Son Will Call His Mother Prostitute? Many Times My Mother Requested Him To Get Out From The House But He Don't Wants To Move Out. My Mother Pass 20 Years Single Mother Without My Father. She Struggles A lot To Raise Me And My 3 Siblings. Except Me, My Younger Sister & 2 Brothers Got Good Education Background. My Mother Send This Idiot To A Orphanage Homes And Gave Him A Good Education. Today He Doing Degree At KDU. But They Way He Talks Like Uneducated. As A Brother He Never Respect Me But He Should Respect My Mother Right?

I Still Remember, When I 6 Years Old My Mother Run Away To Her Mother House Because My Dad Beaten Her. So She Leave Me, This Idiot And My Younger Sister With My Father. This Idiot 4 Years Old And My Sister 2 Years Old Baby. Daily My Father Prepare Food For Us Before Going To Work.

IT’S TBT BUT I WILL RATHER GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO MY GIRLS OUT THERE

Women…we are so amazing!! I know even the men will agree. Our lives are rarely a straight trajectory…instead we weave together an abundant existence from the varied and often unexpected occurrences that we encounter. Sociologists claim that “women are open-minded” and have great tolerance for interruption because they are naturally geared to not only pay attention to many things at once but to also do several things at the same time…oh you woman you!!!! I must confess that the older I get the less tolerance I have for interruption these days so please don’t bank on that one too much. As women, we juggle motherhood, career, education, myriad significant relationships, care-providing, household management, self-growth, etc. and all along we are expected to still look unraveled…oh what a powerful and awesome being you all are my amazing women! So what if it not yet Mother’s Day? Or who cares if today is supposed to be TBT? Clearly not me….I just wanted to celebrate all you awesome women today and let you know that it is not going to get any better even if you come back in another lifetime…sorry about the bad news but you are all doing a fantastic job and that is the good news! Now that I have interrupted today’s TBT, we can all get back to business as usual….oh and one more thing…why do we have to wait until Thursday anyway to share our old photos #justasking#confused
